Art & Science

Oil paintings by C. F. Matta have been selected for inclusion in a number of juried (refereed) and non-juried art exhibitions including sole shows. He paints portraits (mainly of scientists who influenced him, family members, and friends). He also enjoys abstract painting inspired primarily by science. Often, the topography of the electron density distribution in molecules provides him with the inspiration for abstract compositions. Because of this interest in Arts and Science, Matta has been a Member of the International Organizing Committee of two conferences on Arts, Mathematics, and Science in Zagreb, Croatia, CroArtScia 2011 and CroArtScia 2013 as a Member of the International Organizing Committee led by graph theoretical chemist Dr. Sonja Nikolic. His computer generated image of a DNA base pair has been among 20 selected science images for the inclusion into the 2016 “La preuve par l’image” of the “Acfas” (Associacion francophone pour le savoir).
